PSSI Prepares Parallel League Tournament, Soccer Calendar to Get Busy

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) plans to roll out a new tournament Running concurrently with the league starting the 2026/2027 season. PSSI is currently finalizing the name and format of this new tournament.
This statement was made by PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir after a PSSI Exco meeting with I.League.
The meeting discussed the development direction of national competitions from the top tier to youth levels, spanning the Indonesia Super League, Championship, Liga Nusantara, down to Liga 4.

The meeting also highlighted major agendas for the 2026/2027 season, including early finalization of regulations.
"We are also refining plans to launch a championship that will run parallel to the league," Erick stated via his official Instagram account on Wednesday.
This step is deemed strategic to ensure all stakeholders—clubs, league operators, and the federation—have more mature and measurable planning.
Equally important, competition calendar synchronization is a primary focus.
PSSI and I.League are committed to aligning the league schedule with the Indonesian National Team's agenda, organizational programs, and various local/international events to create more professional football management.
On the technical side, Video Assistant Referee (VAR) implementation in the Super League and Championship is showing tangible impact.
Competitions have become more competitive, with relatively balanced Match Results distribution ANTARA home and away teams.
Data shows that in the Super League, home wins account for 44.86%, away wins for 30.45%, and Draws for 24.69%.
In the Championship, home teams recorded 44.35% wins, away teams 29.57%, and draws 26.09%.
"The Super League has played 243 matches so far, demonstrating increased rivalry and competitiveness. From 20% last season, it has now risen to 30%. The Championship also saw a significant rise, partly triggered by VAR implementation," said I.League CEO Ferry Paulus.
Expansion efforts extend beyond domestic borders. I.League is exploring strategic collaborations with elite leagues like Eredivisie, La Liga, J.League, and the Bundesliga.
Additionally, cooperation with FIFA is being strengthened, particularly in supporter management and match security aspects.
