The Indonesian national team had to acknowledge Bulgaria's superiority after a narrow 0-1 loss in the final match of the FIFA Series 2026 Indonesia Group held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Monday evening, March 30, 2026.

The sole goal in this match was scored by Bulgarian midfielder Marin Petkov from the penalty spot in the 38th minute. That penalty became the difference in a tightly contested match.

From kickoff, the Garuda Squad appeared confident against the European team with a higher FIFA Ranking. John Herdman's charges matched Bulgaria's play and repeatedly attempted to create space through the flanks.

Nevertheless, Bulgaria's pragmatic approach effectively contained Indonesia's aggression. Their compact and disciplined defense frequently halted the hosts' attacks before reaching the penalty area.

Indonesia attempted to build quick counterattacks. Ole Romeny accelerated through midfield but was stopped by Martin Georgiev's foul, resulting in a yellow card.

A crucial moment came in the 35th minute when referee Nazmi Nasaruddin consulted VAR regarding an incident in Indonesia's box. After review, Kevin Diks was deemed to have fouled Zdravko Dimitrov, awarding Bulgaria a penalty.

Designated taker Marin Petkov converted successfully. The 22-year-old's strike eluded goalkeeper Emil Audero, giving Bulgaria a 1-0 lead at halftime.

After the break, John Herdman introduced Ivar Jenner for Ramadhan Sananta. Bulgaria intensified pressure early in the second half and nearly doubled their lead through Martin Minchev, but Justin Hubner made a crucial block.

Indonesia rotated again in the 58th minute, bringing on Elkan Baggott and Eliano Reijnders to reinforce defense and midfield.

A threatening chance came from Kevin Diks' long throw met by Elkan Baggott's header, but the opportunity was disallowed for an earlier infringement.

Another golden opportunity arose in the 72nd minute when Ole Romeny connected inside the box, only to see his effort strike the crossbar.

Indonesia increased attacking intensity in the closing stages. Substitute Dony Tri Pamungkas delivered dangerous crosses, followed by Beckham Putra Nugraha's introduction to bolster the frontline.

Bulgaria remained dangerous on counters, with Vladimir Nikolov forcing Emil Audero into action during one threatening move.

In the dying moments, Rizky Ridho unleashed Indonesia's final attempt. His shot was parried by keeper Dimitar Mitov onto the crossbar before being cleared.

The 1-0 scoreline held until full-time. This defeat marks a significant note for the Indonesian National Team despite their dominant display throughout the contest.
