Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) is preparing to welcome an event that is more than just a race; it's a celebration of South Sulawesi's maritime culture. The South Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sulsel) will host the Katinting Race 2025, a race featuring the distinctive Bugis-Makassar motorboats that have become a pride icon for coastal fishermen.
This event is no ordinary race. The government aims to present something more meaningful, not just as a competition, but also as a means of cultural preservation and regional tourism promotion.
The competition will take place over three days, October 24-26, 2025, at a strategic and enchanting location: Taman Andalan Center Point of Indonesia (CPI) Losari, Makassar.

Public enthusiasm is already palpable, especially since this event is part of the main calendar for the 2025 Sulsel Anniversary (HUT Sulsel).
The Head of the South Sulawesi Provincial Transportation Department, Andi Erwin Terwo, emphasized the special value of this event.
"This competition for the Governor of Sulsel Cup is one of the main attractions in the 2025 Sulsel Anniversary calendar because it presents a blend of sport, marine recreation, and the local wisdom of South Sulawesi's fishermen," he said.
The katinting race is not just about speed. Behind the roaring engines lies the story of the bravery of Bugis, Makassar sailors who have navigated vast oceans for hundreds of years.

The competition is guaranteed to be fierce. Besides the Governor of Sulsel Cup, participants will compete for a total prize pool of Rp100 million.
"Apart from the prestigious trophy, participants will also compete for a total prize of Rp100 million, consisting of development funds, engine prizes, and trophies for the six best winners."
This is not just about victory, but also the honor of the fishing community, known for their resilience and creativity in modifying their katinting boats.
This event is open to all. The public can witness the excitement firsthand at the CPI and Losari area.
