The 21st week Super League duel at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Saturday night, February 14, 2026, showcased a tactical battle between two coaches, Bernardo Tavares and Paul Munster. Ahead of the heated Persebaya Surabaya vs Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung FC match, both sides acknowledged the opponent's quality while hinting at threats to anticipate.

Bernardo Tavares asserted Persebaya wouldn't abandon their identity despite facing a Bhayangkara he deemed more solid after squad restructuring.

“We must play according to our players' characteristics, not drastically change because of opponent A, B, or C,” stated Tavares during the pre-match press conference at Stadion GBT Surabaya on Friday.

The Portuguese coach emphasized performance consistency. Persebaya, he noted, must maintain positives from previous matches while refining crucial details, particularly in defensive transitions where vulnerabilities often emerge.

He assessed Bhayangkara appears stronger after recruiting experienced domestic players. The primary threat, according to Tavares, stems from their speed in offensive transitions and willingness to shoot from outside the penalty area.

“This demands improved defensive transitions and focus, as we've allowed too much space near our goal,” he remarked.

Bhayangkara's player flexibility also drew Tavares' attention. Multiple players capable of filling various positions make the opponent's gameplay scheme unpredictable.

“Unfortunately, we're not at 100%—some players are ill while others are injured,” he revealed.

Nevertheless, Tavares hopes full support from Bonek and Bonita supporters could prove decisive at GBT.

Bhayangkara Alert to Persebaya Threat

In the opposing camp, Paul Munster displayed equal caution. The Bhayangkara coach rated Persebaya among the league's most dangerous teams, particularly when exploiting space during attacking transitions.

He described Persebaya as a formidable team with swift, seasoned players. Munster specifically highlighted the Green Crocodile's rapid frontline and long-range shooting prowess.

“We must stay vigilant, especially against their transitions and ability to shoot from outside the box,” Munster stated during Friday's pre-match press conference in Surabaya, East Java.

He anticipated a high-tempo match regardless of Persebaya's fitness issues, acknowledging Gelora Bung Tomo's atmosphere consistently serves as an X-factor for the hosts.

"Home supporters will undoubtedly create intense pressure, but we're determined to devise the best strategy to secure points," he concluded.
