Borneo FC are still holding onto their chances of claiming the 2025/2026 BRI Super League title. Head coach Fabio Lefundes has confirmed that the Pesut Etam squad will fight relentlessly right until the end of the season to lift the championship trophy.

Currently, Borneo FC sits in second place in the provisional league table with 75 points. They are only behind league leaders Persib Bandung on head-to-head record, with both sides holding the exact same number of points.

Borneo FC remain well in contention for the title, but they will need to win both of their remaining matches, while also hoping that Persib drop points in the final fixture of the campaign.

"Right now we have two matches left, and we will be aiming to take maximum points from both of these final games," stated Lefundes, quoted from the official I.League website on Sunday, 17 May 2026.

For their upcoming fixture, Borneo FC are scheduled to face Persijap Jepara at the Gelora Bumi Kartini Stadium on Sunday evening, kick-off 19:00 WIB.

At that same time, their main title rivals Persib Bandung will be playing an away match against PSM Makassar.

While Borneo FC hold a far stronger league position, Lefundes has warned that the match against Persijap will not be an easy contest. He noted that the home side will certainly put up a fierce fight to deliver their best performance in front of their own supporters.

Earlier in the season during the first meeting between the sides, Borneo FC did secure a 3-1 victory over Persijap. Even so, Lefundes has instructed his players to remain alert and prepared for the pressure of playing away from home.

"We expect this will be a difficult match, they will absolutely want to give their best performance on their own ground," the Brazilian coach commented.

For their part, Persijap currently sit 13th in the provisional Standings with 34 points. Although there is a huge gap between them and Borneo FC in the table, the Jepara-based side still pose a very real threat to derail Borneo's title challenge.

Lefundes also confirmed that he feels no pressure amid the tight title race with Persib Bandung. On the contrary, he says this battle has only increased his motivation to end the season on the highest possible note with Borneo FC.

"This isn't pressure for me, I actually feel far more motivated. It gives us drive to keep doing our jobs properly," he concluded.

The race for the 2025/2026 BRI Super League title is guaranteed to go down to the wire in the final matchweek. Borneo FC will now look to maintain their consistent form, while waiting for the chance to overtake Persib at the top of the league table.
