Amidst the hustle and bustle of Cairo, the Chinese New Year celebration brought color and cross-civilizational significance. China Spring Festival 2026 became a stage for the meeting of Chinese and Egyptian cultures, showcasing How traditions can transform into bridges between nations in the heart of North Africa.
Swiss Club in Cairo hosted the celebration on Sunday, February 8, welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse in a festive atmosphere.
Nearly 1,000 Egyptian citizens and over 200 Chinese residents in Egypt attended, enjoying a series of events blending cuisine, art, and cultural performances.

The event was organized by the Bayt Al-Hekma Cultural Group and designed as an immersive experience.
Chinese and Egyptian traditions converged through interactive cultural activities, allowing visitors not just to observe but to actively participate.
They tried calligraphy, paper-cutting art, and lantern-making—iconic Spring Festival activities rich in symbols of luck and new hopes.
Aromas of traditional Chinese New Year dishes from various food stalls spread across the event area.
Cuisine served as a universal language uniting visitors across backgrounds while introducing Egyptian audiences to distinctive Chinese festive flavors.
The atmosphere grew livelier through performances by students studying Mandarin.
Folk Music and short theater presentations featured simple stories about traditions, family, and seasonal transitions.
The Chairman of Bayt Al-Hekma stated this cultural encounter represents a living dialogue BETWEEN two great civilizations, calling it an opportunity for Egyptians to express appreciation for Chinese culture.
Similar sentiments came from Ali El-Hefny, Vice Chairman of the Egypt-China Friendship Association, who expressed joy in celebrating with Egypt's Chinese community and highlighted bilateral friendship tracing back to the Silk Road era.
For many attendees, the festival was more than celebration—it became a cross-cultural learning space.
Haneen El-Sayed, a Mandarin student at October 6 University, said the event deepened her understanding of Chinese Holiday traditions, including gift-giving customs, festive cuisine, and seasonal activities.(Xinhua)
