The crashing waves of Pariaman's coast will once again bear witness to a centuries-old cultural celebration. The charm of Hoyak Tabuik Piaman has been confirmed to return to the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN), the official national Tourism calendar.

This annual event held by Pariaman City residents in West Sumatra marks Tabuik's return to the national stage after its absence in 2025.

The reinclusion of Hoyak Tabuik Piaman in KEN represents a crucial moment, not just for local government but also for communities preserving this cross-generational tradition.

"This aligns with directives from Pariaman Mayor Yota Balad and the hard work of Pariaman Tourism and Culture Office to reintegrate the Cultural Charm of Hoyak Tabuik Piaman into KEN this year," stated Pariaman Deputy Mayor Mulyadi on Friday.

For Pariaman residents, this recognition brings special pride. Tabuik has long been the tourism icon of this coastal city while symbolizing cultural identity.

With its KEN reinstatement, this year's Hoyak Tabuik Piaman will be maximized in both execution and promotion.

He emphasized that reinclusion in KEN represents pride for Pariaman citizens, restoring momentum to promote regional tourism nationally.

Beyond a cultural event, Hoyak Tabuik Piaman is projected to boost the local economy.

Scheduled for 16-28 June 2026, the celebration expects thousands of tourists to revitalize community activities from MSMEs to tourism services.

"God willing, this year will be attended by Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, and Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya," he said.

Hoyak Tabuik originates from traditions commemorating the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Husain Bin Ali, at Karbala.

Held annually during early Muharram, it transformed through adaptation with Pariaman's local culture into a unique celebration blending spiritual values, history, and coastal cultural expression.

Previously included in KEN 2024, it failed to compete with other regional tourism events for 2025.

This prompted Pariaman City Government to reapply for Hoyak Tabuik Piaman's inclusion in the national tourism calendar.

"Hoyak Tabuik was in KEN 2024 but excluded for 2025. For 2026, we've secured its KEN inclusion," explained Acting Head of Pariaman Tourism and Culture Office Ferialdi.

Ferialdi noted comprehensive evaluation of previous executions identified causes for its 2025 exclusion despite significant potential witnessed by the Culture Minister.

These improvements resulted in Hoyak Tabuik Piaman's return to KEN 2026, opening access to promotional and organizational support from the Tourism Ministry. (ANTARA)
