Major transfer rumors once again surround Persib Bandung. The pride of West Java is reportedly exploring the possibility of signing former Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa in this transfer window.

The news was first reported by French media Foot Mercato, which named Persib as one of the Asian clubs seriously pursuing the 32-year-old player. Kurzawa is even said to be in advanced negotiation stages with Maung Bandung.

Layvin Kurzawa is a French player primarily known as a left-back. Throughout his career, he has played for several elite European clubs. Kurzawa gained significant public attention while playing for AS Monaco, before joining Paris Saint-Germain and becoming part of their star-studded squad.

The player, who has earned 13 caps for the French National Team, also experienced the English Premier League atmosphere with Fulham in 2023. Most recently, Kurzawa played in Portugal for Boavista before parting ways in July last year.

In its report, Foot Mercato considered this potential transfer as a major surprise in Southeast Asia.

"Without a club since leaving Boavista last summer, this former Paris Saint-Germain wing-back is poised to surprise many," wrote Foot Mercato.

The media outlet also emphasized that talks between the parties are already quite serious.

"Layvin Kurzawa is currently in advanced negotiations to join Persib Bandung, the leaders of the Indonesian League," wrote Foot Mercato.

"According to our information, this former French international with 13 appearances is exploring a move to Southeast Asia, specifically to Indonesia," continued the report.

From Persib's side, Deputy CEO of PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat, Adhitia Putra Herawan, finally spoke up regarding the rumor. While not explicitly confirming the possibility of signing Kurzawa, Adhitia signaled interest by praising the player's quality.

He assessed Kurzawa as a highly flexible player on the field.

"Kurzawa seems capable of playing in three positions: LB (left-back), LM (left midfielder), and LCB (left center-back)," said Adhitia, as reported by Kompas.com.

From a team needs perspective, this rumor seems logical. Persib currently lacks a consistent, natural left-back. Coach Bojan Hodak has often experimented by placing several players in that position, including Eliano Reijnders, Alfeandra Dewangga, and Federico Barba.

Regulatory factors also support this potential transfer. This season's Super League allows each club to have up to 11 foreign players. Persib currently only has 10 foreign player slots filled, leaving room for one more addition.

The situation is further opened up by rumors of Federico Barba's imminent departure. If this happens, Persib would certainly need an experienced defender to maintain the stability of their backline.

Another equally important reason is Kurzawa's current status as a free agent. Since parting ways with Boavista in July last year, he hasn't played at a competitive level. This condition makes the negotiation process relatively more flexible, both in terms of contract duration and transfer value.

If this transfer materializes, the arrival of Layvin Kurzawa has the potential to be one of the most prestigious signings in Persib Bandung's history. Beyond adding technical quality, his experience playing at the highest level in Europe is believed to bring significant influence to the Maung Bandung dressing room.
