LIV Golf has finally spoken following news of Brooks Koepka's return to the PGA Tour. On Monday, January 12, 2026 local time, the Saudi-funded league issued an official statement on social media after Koepka was confirmed to return to the PGA Tour within two weeks via the Farmers Insurance Open.

Koepka's return is facilitated through the PGA Tour's new "Returning Member Program".

This program opens opportunities for players who have not been PGA Tour members for at least two years but won major tournaments between 2022-2025 to rejoin.

However, this opportunity is only available for a three-week period.

Koepka qualifies after winning the PGA Championship and will be the first player to utilize this pathway.

Besides Koepka, only three other names meet these criteria: Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith.

Official Statement from LIV Golf

Responding to the situation, LIV Golf released an official statement on social media Monday afternoon local time, as quoted by Golfweek:

"From the beginning, LIV Golf has advocated for an open ecosystem and freedom for all – not just a select few. An ecosystem that supports players' rights to compete across platforms while affirming the belief that golf's growth is best achieved when top players are empowered to seek the best competitive environments worldwide.

LIV Golf's vision remains unchanged: growing Golf globally. As this vision gains momentum across golf's broader landscape, our capacity to realize it strengthens through expanding pathways and opportunities beyond any single institution or interest.

As golf's global league, LIV Golf continues to offer professional golf's top players the most competitive, challenging, and rewarding environment to pursue global glory."

PGA Tour in Dominant Position

Despite its optimistic tone, the statement is seen as lacking concrete answers regarding the strategic implications of Koepka's return. Koepka's move actually strengthens the PGA Tour's dominant position in professional golf.

Should Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, or Cameron Smith follow Koepka's path, the impact could be severe for LIV Golf's future.

The league's sustainability heavily relies on its star power. Without big names, the competition's appeal would sharply decline both commercially and in global popularity.

In other words, Koepka's return isn't just about one player switching leagues but signals a power shift in professional golf.

The PGA Tour is now in its strongest position in recent years, while LIV Golf faces its biggest challenge since inception.

Will Rahm, DeChambeau, or Smith follow? The answer will critically determine the future of the power struggle between modern golf's two biggest leagues.
