Santolo Beach Revamp: Garut's Push to Restore Maritime Destination Image

Santolo Beach in Cikelet District, Garut Regency has long been renowned as a mesmerizing southern coastal stretch of West Java. Its wide sandy expanse, colorful fishing boats, and the roar of Indian Ocean waves have become a tourist magnet. 

Yet this premier destination's image was tarnished by a violent incident occurring in the area during the Year-End Holiday season.

Now, local authorities are acting swiftly. The Tourism and Culture Office (Disparbud) of Garut Regency is implementing comprehensive improvements to restore Santolo Beach's positive image as a safe, comfortable, and visitor-friendly Tourist Destination.

"Recently Garut's reputation needed recovery to reestablish itself as a tourism destination within Garut Regency," stated Garut Disparbud Head Budi Gan Gan in Garut on Monday.

As a flagship beach managed by local government, Santolo Beach holds vital importance in southern Garut's tourism landscape. 

This beach offers not only open-ocean panoramas but also serves as an economic hub for coastal communities, from fishermen to local tourism entrepreneurs.

However, amid bustling Tourist Visits, an assault incident against a woman—triggered by retribution collection issues—emerged. Police have since handled the case.

Disparbud emphasized the retribution system at Santolo Beach operates under clear legal frameworks and contributes to regional revenue.

"I've clarified all legal aspects—this falls under government authority, and Santolo's future will be significantly safer," he affirmed.

Beyond regulatory enforcement, Santolo Beach's image recovery involves collaborative approaches. 

Through these corrective measures, Santolo Beach is projected to regain its status as a convergence point for nature, coastal culture, and Sustainable Tourism.

Tourists can now not only enjoy Garut's southern seascape but also experience the safety, hospitality, and social harmony emblematic of world-class destinations.(ANTARA)
