At the end of the year, West Java always transforms into a giant moving space. Main roads are filled with vehicles and tourist areas come alive almost without pause. During the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays, the scale of this movement reaches one of its highest points.

The West Java Transportation Agency (Dishub) predicts that 21.2 million people will Travel during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 Holiday period. Of that number, the majority—around 60 percent—are Tourism-related trips.

“Of the 21.2 million travelers, approximately 60 percent are for tourism, 35.1 percent for homecoming (mudik), and 4.1 percent for visiting relatives without homecoming. The remaining 0.8 percent are for other reasons, including work,” stated Head of West Java Transportation Agency Dhani Gumelar in Bandung on Friday, December 26, 2025.

These figures reveal one crucial point: Tourism is not a peripheral activity but the main pulse of year-end in this province.

People move out from major cities toward landscapes offering respite from routine—mountains and beaches.

Among all these options, Pangandaran Beach once again claims the top spot. Its long coastline, Indian Ocean waves, and accessible destination character make it a collective space for millions to conclude one year and welcome the next.

Dhani explained that Pangandaran is predicted to be the favorite area with 2,069,438 visitors, followed by Bandung City (2,055,710 people), the Puncak area (1,652,814 people), and Lembang (904,535 people).

Tourists’ preference for Pangandaran reflects a growing trend toward nature-oriented experiences—open spaces, natural light, and slower rhythms compared to cities.

This massive movement simultaneously reshapes infrastructure and travel management in West Java. Private transportation dominates, tourist routes undergo strict monitoring, and urban rhythms adjust to the ebb and flow of travelers.

Pangandaran Beach, in this context, is not merely a destination but a geographical ritual—where people from across West Java gather to close one time cycle before beginning the next.(ANTARA)
