Manchester United finally returned to winning ways in the Premier League. Playing in front of the Old Trafford crowd, The Red Devils successfully overcame Newcastle United with a 1-0 scoreline in the 18th week, early Saturday morning, December 27, 2025.

This victory felt significant for MU, not only because it was achieved against a tough opponent, but also because it propelled them up to the top half of the provisional Standings.

MU's only goal was scored by wing-back Patrick Dorgu. The MU wing-back became the hero through his attacking instinct in the penalty box.

The additional three points brought Manchester United to fifth place in the provisional Premier League standings with 29 points from 18 matches. The Red Devils are 10 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Meanwhile for Newcastle, this defeat kept them stuck in mid-table. Newcastle remain in 11th place in the provisional Premier League standings with 23 points from 18 matches, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Intense First Half, Dorgu Breaks the Deadlock

From the opening minutes, both teams immediately displayed open play and pressed each other. Casemiro created a chance for MU but his header still missed the target. Similarly, Newcastle had an opportunity through Bruno Guimaraes's header.

MU's pressure finally paid off in the 24th minute. Patrick Dorgu pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty box, changing the score to 1-0.

The goal increased the tempo of the match. Dorgu almost doubled the lead after receiving a pass from Matheus Cunha. However, this time his shot was parried by Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Subsequently, Benjamin Sesko attempted for MU. But his shot still hit the Newcastle crossbar.

Newcastle Fail to Respond, MU Secures Three Points

Entering the remainder of the match, Newcastle tried to take the initiative to equalize. However, MU's compact defense rendered all the visitors' efforts futile.

The final whistle at Old Trafford signaled a crucial Manchester United victory. This win not only ended a difficult period but also reaffirmed MU's position as a disruptor in the Premier League's top tier this season.
