Indonesian Men's and Women's Football Teams Confirmed to Return Without SEA Games 2025 Medals.

Indonesia's hope of bringing home a medal from the Football event at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games was dashed. The Indonesian Women's Team was forced to acknowledge the superiority of host Thailand with a 0-2 defeat in the bronze medal match at Chonburi Stadium on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. This loss confirmed Indonesia finished in fourth place and failed to make the podium.

This result completed the failure of Indonesian Football at the 2025 SEA Games, after the men's team had previously also been confirmed to return without a medal due to an early exit and failure to advance to the semifinals.

In the bronze medal match, Indonesia did not start ideally. Akira Higashiyama's squad opted for a cautious, wait-and-see approach. This strategy allowed Thailand to press freely from the opening minutes.

The Indonesian defense held firm for the first 15 minutes before finally crumbling in the 17th minute. From a corner kick situation, Rhianne Rush fired home from a rebound that the Indonesian goalkeeper couldn't stop. 1-0 to Thailand.

Trailing by one goal, Indonesia's play slowly improved. However, Thailand instead showcased their effectiveness again. 

In the 43rd minute, Pattaranan Aupachai got her name on the scoresheet after capitalizing on a through ball, putting the hosts 2-0 up by halftime.

Entering the second half, Akira Higashiyama made tactical changes. Indonesia appeared braver, especially after the introduction of the agile winger Rosdilah. 

Chances were created early in the half, but imperfect finishing saw those opportunities wasted.

Indonesia increased their firepower by bringing on Claudia Scheunemann, a player currently active in the Netherlands with FC Utrecht. 

In the 77th minute, Aulia Al Mabruroh beat the offside trap and took a shot towards goal, but the ball went straight at the Thai goalkeeper.

Attack after attack by Indonesia still yielded no result. On the other hand, Thailand also failed to add to their lead due to poor finishing. The final whistle blew with the 2-0 scoreline for Thailand unchanged. Thailand secured the bronze medal. 

Despite the lack of a medal, the struggle of the Indonesian Women's Team at the 2025 SEA Games is still worthy of appreciation. They managed to reach the bronze medal match despite facing limitations, including the absence of a sustained national competition.

This failure of the women's team completes the subpar results for Indonesian Football at the 2025 SEA Games. The men's team under coach Indra Sjafri also failed to win a medal earlier, finishing only second in their group with three points and failing to qualify for the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Women's Football final of the 2025 SEA Games will feature the Philippines against Myanmar tonight at 19:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). 

In the men's sector, the Philippines and Malaysia will battle for third place. 

Meanwhile, host Thailand is scheduled to face Vietnam in the final match on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
