Manchester City spoiled Real Madrid's night at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 1-2 defeat in their sixth Champions League group stage match early Thursday, December 11, 2025 WIB didn't just drop Los Blancos to seventh place in the standings with 12 points. This result also intensifies speculation about coach Xabi Alonso's future?

Madrid started with high intensity and scored first in the 28th minute through Rodrygo, capitalizing on Jude Bellingham's pass.

The goal came after Madrid pressured City's defense, including a Bellingham shot blocked by The Citizens' backline.

But Madrid's lead lasted only seven minutes. City responded with typical determination. Pep Guardiola's squad equalized in the 35th minute thanks to Nico O'Reilly converting a rebound.

City's equalizer made Xabi Alonso's side lose control of the game. Things worsened when Erling Haaland converted a penalty in the 43rd minute. City turned the match around 2-1.

City grew even more dominant after halftime. Jeremy Doku forced Thibaut Courtois into a crucial save.

Madrid tried responding by increasing their attacking intensity, but Vinicius Junior's header sailed wide of City's goal.

Los Blancos' efforts continued. This time Endrick's header flew over Gianluigi Donnarumma's crossbar. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle. City left the Bernabeu with three points.

With these additional points, City collected 13 points and climbed to fourth place in the Champions League group standings.

Pressure Mounts for Xabi Alonso

This negative result increases pressure on Xabi Alonso. While Madrid played aggressively, their slow transitions and fragile defensive coordination drew criticism.

Losing to City at home has strengthened speculation about Alonso's future, especially with Madrid now dropping to seventh position.

Club management hasn't issued an official statement yet, but alarms are ringing. With the competition entering a crucial phase, Alonso has no choice but to respond quickly - both in the dressing room and on the pitch.
