In the Caribbean, enthusiasm erupted like waves crashing against Willemstad's coastline on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Curaçao, a small nation with big ambitions, wrote new history by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States-Canada-Mexico. Notably, Curaçao was once managed by former Indonesian national team coach Patrick Kluivert.

Kluivert's coaching during two periods (2015-2016 and 2021) with Curaçao was inconsistent. He successfully raised Curaçao's FIFA ranking by 25 positions during his first stint. However, his second period as interim coach proved less convincing.

Under Kluivert's guidance, Curaçao won only once in six matches, including a crushing 0-4 defeat to Bahrain.

Kluivert's most important legacy was establishing a strong football foundation by implementing an attacking style and recruiting European players of Curaçaoan descent.

Group B Champions: Consistency Bears World Cup Ticket

Curaçao secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup finals after topping Group B with 12 points from six matches.

Their consistency peaked when Dick Advocaat's squad held Jamaica to a 0-0 draw at Independence Park Stadium in Kingston.

This journey wasn't merely about statistics but about a small nation's courage against the tide, rising from Concacaf's mid-level to World Cup participant.

Panama and Haiti Follow Curaçao's Footsteps

The Concacaf zone became more colorful with the emergence of non-traditional faces in the finals.

Panama delivered a decisive 3-0 victory over El Salvador thanks to goals from Cesar Blackman, Eric Davis, and Jose Rodriguez. This win secured their top position in Group A with 12 points.

Haiti returned to the world stage after defeating Nicaragua 2-0 through goals by Louicius Deedson and Ruben Providence, confirming their Group C leadership with 11 points.

For a region accustomed to Mexican, American, and Costa Rican dominance, these three nations' qualification brings fresh air while signaling a new competitive era.

Jamaica and Suriname Head to Intercontinental Playoffs

Jamaica and Suriname face a tougher path. As Concacaf's two best second-placed teams, they'll compete in intercontinental playoffs in Mexico during March 2026.

They'll face opponents from four continents: Iraq (AFC), Democratic Republic of Congo (CAF), Bolivia (CONMEBOL), and New Caledonia (OFC).

The official draw will occur on November 20 at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, based on the latest FIFA rankings.
