The 2026 World Cup European zone qualifiers enter a crucial stage after concluding the group phase matches on Wednesday, November 19, 2026, early morning WIB. Five additional nations, Spain, Austria, Scotland, Switzerland, and Belgium, are the latest teams to secure their tickets to the finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

These five countries complete the long list of teams from the blue continent that had previously secured their spots, further cementing Europe's dominance in the world's biggest football competition.

39 Nations Qualified, 2026 World Cup Nearing Completion

With the end of the European zone group phase, a total of 39 nations have now confirmed their participation in the 2026 World Cup, the first edition to feature 48 participants.

This new format opens up greater opportunities for countries from all confederations to appear on the grandest stage.

The provisional list of participants includes representatives from six continents:

With the presence of giants like Brazil, Germany, and France, alongside dark horses like Cape Verde or Uzbekistan, the tournament is predicted to offer a much wider range of dynamics.

Drama Far From Over: Inter-Confederation Playoffs to Decide Two Tickets

Although 39 nations are confirmed, the journey to the finals isn't over yet. The inter-confederation playoff phase still needs to determine two crucial additional tickets.

Six teams are ready to battle for that last chance: Iraq (Asia), Congo Republic (Africa), Bolivia (South America), New Caledonia (Oceania), and two teams from CONCACAF.

The draw for these playoffs will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at FIFA headquarters in Zurich.

Seedings will be based on the FIFA rankings as of November 19, adding significant tension to the draw.

Equally Fierce: European Zone Playoffs Battling for Four Tickets

Furthermore, Europe still has four remaining slots available through the UEFA zone playoffs. Sixteen nations will face each other in March 2026, including several big names like Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Ukraine, Poland, Wales, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.

The European playoffs often deliver drama with major nations stumbling or dark horses rising at the last moment.

This stage is predicted to be one of the most thrilling phases before the World Cup officially kicks off.

Towards the 2026 World Cup: A Clearer Picture Emerges

With 39 nations already confirmed and 10 remaining tickets awaiting the playoff battles, the 2026 World Cup is getting much closer to its final form.

This tournament, to be hosted across three nations simultaneously, promises a new atmosphere, broader competition, and the potential for bigger surprises than usual.
