At nearly 41 years old this coming December, Los Angeles Lakers megastar LeBron James still refuses to bow to time. Instead of contemplating retirement, he is relishing the opportunity to continue playing at the NBA's highest level.
"I'm happy to have the chance to play again this season, however it goes. I'm very invested because I don't know when the end will come," James stated with conviction.
That statement feels special, as this season will see him become the first player in NBA history to play in 23 seasons. A record that showcases not just physical endurance but also the extraordinary dedication of an athlete consistently at the peak of competition.

This historic moment will commence when the Lakers face the Golden State Warriors in the regular season opener on October 21st. A start rich in symbolism, considering the Lakers-Warriors duel is often regarded as one of the most iconic spectacles in the modern NBA.
LeBron returned to Lakers preseason practices in late September. The spirited glint in his eyes was clear, as if the long season ahead was just another chapter in his career journey. Over the summer, he filled his days with intensive training while enjoying his new hobby: golf.
Yet this season isn't just about him. LeBron will play alongside Luka Doncic, the young star newly acquired via a trade involving Anthony Davis. The Lakers further strengthened their roster with the additions of Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia. This blend of experience and new blood has reignited optimism in Los Angeles.
Although the Lakers finished only third in the Western Conference last season with 50 wins, their run ended in the first round of the playoffs. Still, LeBron remained the team's anchor, averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game across 70 appearances. Those statistics prove age has yet to erode his quality.
Beyond the numbers, LeBron is also enjoying a unique phase in his career: playing on the same team as his eldest son, Bronny James. Bronny joined as a reserve guard for the Lakers, while his younger brother, Bryce, just began his college basketball career at the University of Arizona. Beyond championships, this togetherness might be LeBron's most valuable emotional "trophy."
"I feel as good as my mind tells me I feel, so how can I not feel young? I feel incredible," James declared. That sentence sounds like a personal mantra, keeping his spirit ablaze even as the calendar makes no compromises.
Eight seasons with the Lakers make this the longest period LeBron has stayed with one team. Previously, he spent his first seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, then won two championships with the Miami Heat, returned to the Cavaliers for four seasons securing one historic title, before moving to Los Angeles in 2018.
Now, LeBron stands at a unique crossroads: a legend still productive, a father playing alongside his son, and a competitor still hungry for titles. With prime physical condition and unwavering motivation, LeBron James proves that "age" is just a number—while spirit is everything.
