Cristiano Ronaldo finally addressed retirement rumors that once shocked the football world. The Portuguese megastar confirmed his active time on the pitch is nearing its end, though not entirely over yet.

“I will retire in one or two years. Yes, I don't see it lasting much longer than that," stated Ronaldo as quoted by The Business Times on Tuesday.

The legend seemingly signaled his career conclusion will arrive between 2026 and 2027, coinciding with his contract expiration at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

Long Journey from Sporting CP to the World's Summit

Cristiano Ronaldo's football journey is an inspirational tale nearly impossible to replicate.

His professional debut began in 2002 with Sporting CP in Portugal. From there, his talent instantly captured global attention, leading him to Manchester United, then Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr.

Throughout his career, Ronaldo has scored over 950 goals, becoming one of football's all-time top scorers.

He also collected five Ballon d’Or trophies, multiple Champions League titles, and extraordinary achievements with Portugal's national team, including Euro 2016 and 2019 Nations League triumphs.

Seeking Family Focus as Career Nears End

In his recent interview, the 40-year-old player admitted wanting to close his professional chapter soon to spend more time with family.

For Ronaldo, this moment transcends physical capability or records—it's about savoring life after two decades competing at the highest level.

Nevertheless, his competitive fire remains undimmed. In June 2025, he extended his Al-Nassr contract until 2027, proving his desire to leave one last meaningful mark on football.

2026 World Cup as Final Stage

Ronaldo confirmed the 2026 World Cup across the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be his last appearance in the prestigious tournament.

“Yes, definitely (2026 World Cup), because I'll be 41 years old then,” he stated.

For a player who featured in five World Cups, this final opportunity represents his ultimate dedication to Portugal.

Should he lead Portugal deep into the tournament, the 2026 World Cup could crown his legendary career perfectly.

25 Years of Football Devotion

Though Ronaldo's era gradually approaches its conclusion, his sporting legacy remains timeless. He acknowledged this, expressing heartfelt pride.

“I've given everything to football. I've dedicated 25 years to this sport. Achieved all there is—countless records with clubs and country. I'm proud. Now let's enjoy this moment, live this moment,” concluded Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo stands not just as a symbol of glory, but as an icon of dedication, discipline, and championship mentality.

When he finally hangs up his boots, football will lose not merely a lethal striker, but the revolutionary who redefined professionalism in the sport.
