Indonesia's sports equipment industry is in a golden moment. Not only does it make us proud in the global market, this sector is increasingly strengthening the domestic economy.
Data from the Ministry of Industry shows Indonesia has maintained a trade surplus in sports equipment over the past five years. In fact, Indonesia now ranks 24th globally in sports equipment export contributions.
"In 2024, our sports equipment export value increased 4.6 percent compared to 2023. Indonesia's main export destinations include the United States, South Korea, Japan, and the Netherlands," said Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) at the Ministry of Industry, Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The most frequently exported products include sports gloves, golf balls, fishing rods, inflatable balls, and gymnastics and athletics equipment.
Meanwhile domestically, Euromonitor and Ken Research estimate the local sports equipment market reaches Rp2.3 trillion.
Interestingly, soccer equipment became the highest-selling product.
"This means the sports equipment industry not only supports the export sector but also plays a crucial role in domestic job creation," added Reni.
By 2025, there are 128 business units operating in sports equipment with a workforce reaching 15,663 people.
IKM centers are spread across eight locations in Central Java, East Java, and West Java, and are expanding to Riau, North Sumatra, and Bali.
With such potential, the Ministry of Industry is accelerating efforts. "We want to ensure Indonesia doesn't just become a market, but can play a role as a globally competitive main producer of sports equipment," Reni emphasized.
Several steps have been prepared: pro-investation regulations, increased Domestic Content Level (TKDN) encouragement, plus machinery facilitation, certification, promotion, and exhibitions.
Indonesia's sports equipment industry is no longer just a local player. With soaring exports and a large domestic market, Indonesia is preparing to become a globally recognized main producer. (Antara)
