Musical films in Indonesia are getting a fresh breath of life through director Riri Riza's latest project. This time, the legendary story of "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta" (AADC), cherished by the 2000s generation, returns in a fresh version titled "Rangga & Cinta".

Not merely a remake, this film offers a distinct experience. The actors genuinely sing live on set.

"The process involved selecting individuals with singing abilities who could vocally express themselves, as nearly all the songs were performed live on location," said Riri during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, September 30, 2025.

To support this concept, the production team implemented special monitoring technology allowing actors to hear the music directly in their ears.

This ensured their vocals remained harmoniously synchronized with the musical accompaniment.

"The actors could truly feel the music and express it through their voices on set," Riri explained.

However, reviving the iconic tale of Rangga and Cinta as a musical proved challenging.

The casting process was extremely meticulous. Riri sought a balance where each character could achieve harmony not just through acting, but also while singing.

"Finding the right dynamic among them was like assembling a puzzle. We placed photos on a wall, constantly shifting them left and right," he revealed.

This musical version introduces fresh energy with new faces. Leya Princy takes on the role of Cinta, while El Putra Sarira becomes Rangga.

They are joined by Daniella Tumiwa (Karmen), Rafly Altama (Mamet), Katyana Mawira (Milly), Kyandra Sembel (Maura), and Jasmine Nadya (Alya).

The musical film "Rangga & Cinta" is scheduled for release in cinemas across Indonesia starting October 2, 2025.

It offers audiences a chance to reminisce while experiencing something new: a legendary love story now fused with the harmony of music, song, and raw emotion ignited directly on the big screen. (Antara)
