Indonesia U-17 is finalizing preparations ahead of their opening match in the 2025 U-17 World Cup, focusing on achieving peak performance gradually. Team manager Ahmed Zaki Iskandar emphasized the coaching staff has prepared a strategy to ensure the Young Garuda's performance graph continues to rise throughout the group stage.

“Hopefully, at the timing scheduled by this training team, their peak will start from the first match tomorrow (today). Peak 1, then peak 2 in the second match, and peak 3 in the third match,” stated Zaki during the team's training session at Al Thumama Stadium, Doha, Monday, November 3, 2025.

Zaki added that the best performance is expected to fully emerge when the team enters the knockout stage.

“And the levels, the performance points we hope to achieve in the fourth round match (round of 32),” he continued.

Learning from the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup

These preparations are not without basis. Zaki considers the experience in the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup an important benchmark. With a largely similar squad, Indonesia managed to reach the quarter-finals of that tournament.

In the event held last April, Indonesia narrowly lost 0-1 to South Korea, then bounced back with a 4-1 win over Yemen and a 2-0 win over Afghanistan.

That impressive performance saw the Young Garuda advance from the group stage, before ultimately being halted in the quarter-finals after a 0-6 loss to North Korea.

Mental Key to Facing the World Cup

Besides physical and strategic aspects, the mentality of the young players is also a major focus. According to Zaki, the opening match often presents the biggest test.

“Coach Nova and the entire coaching team, including Asti Laksmiari Saraswati, always provide input to our national team, so they can build up and be confident facing the first match tomorrow. Because usually in this first match, the mental aspect is definitely tested,” he explained.

Enjoy the Atmosphere, Play Without Pressure

Zaki also reminded the young players to enjoy their historic moment on the world stage.

“The federation also hopes they can play freely. So, enjoying means playing freely, savoring every minute of this World Cup match, and also enjoying the World Cup atmosphere for our children,” said the former Regent of Tangerang.
