2026 MotoGP Standings: Marc Marquez Closes the Gap on Jorge Martin Following the German Grand Prix

Marc Marquez once again demonstrated his champion mentality in the 2026 MotoGP season. His victory at the German Grand Prix held at the Sachsenring Circuit propelled the Ducati Lenovo rider up to third place in the provisional standings, while also reigniting the battle for the world championship title.
Marquez delivered a flawless performance throughout the entire Sachsenring race weekend, securing clean wins in both the sprint race and the main grand prix. After collecting the maximum possible 37 points from this round, Marquez now holds a total of 190 championship points.
This points haul provides critical momentum for the eight-time world champion to close the gap on standings leader Jorge Martin. Marquez now sits just 18 points behind Martin, who continues to top the provisional leaderboard with 208 points.

Marc Marquez is ready to make his MotoGP comeback at the Mugello circuit after recovering from an injury and completing his surgical procedure.
Despite missing out on a podium finish after crossing the line in fifth place, Martin still managed to retain his position at the head of the championship standings.
Meanwhile, Ai Ogura also put on an impressive display at Sachsenring. A second place finish saw the Japanese rider climb up to second position in the standings with 194 points, only 14 points adrift of Martin.
In contrast, Marco Bezzecchi has dropped down to fourth place in the championship. The Italian rider now has 186 points, losing his previous ranking following Marquez's race victory.
Further changes occurred within the top five positions after Fabio Di Giannantonio failed to finish the main race. He crashed out at turn 10 and returned home without scoring any points, remaining in fifth place with a total of 184 points.
The battle at the top of the 2026 MotoGP championship is growing increasingly tight. Just 24 points separate the top five riders, meaning every upcoming round has the potential to completely reshape the world title fight.
Outside the top five, Raul Fernandez occupies sixth place with 159 points. Pedro Acosta sits seventh with 148 points, followed by Francesco Bagnaia in eighth position with 143 points.
The 2026 MotoGP championship now enters its summer break, before action resumes at the British Grand Prix which will be held at Silverstone Circuit. With such narrow point gaps between the title contenders, this round is predicted to become one of the most crucial races in this season's world championship battle.
