Superstar Lionel Messi has officially extended his contract with Major League Soccer club Inter Miami until the end of the 2028 season. This is great news for fans of David Beckham's club.
The captain of the Argentine national team expressed happiness with the club's direction.
“I'm very happy to be here continuing this journey. It's always been a dream to play at Miami Freedom Park stadium. Since moving to Miami, I've been extremely happy, so I decided to stay with this club,” Lionel Messi stated on the club's official website on Friday.

Lionel Messi doesn't deny GOAT nickname but still considers Diego Maradona the best.
For Messi, this decision isn't just about a contract, but about a new home and long-term mission.
He came to Miami not merely to end his career comfortably, but to build a legacy on the field, for the club, and the city.
La Pulga, his nickname, officially joined Inter Miami in the 2023 season after transferring from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
In a short time, he made a massive impact, transforming Inter Miami's image from a young club seeking direction to a global football magnet.
Within two years, this eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has written golden chapters, delivering two trophies: the Leagues Cup 2023 and MLS Supporters Shield 2024.
These trophies symbolize that Messi's arrival wasn't just about drawing crowds, but about igniting competitive spirit and setting new standards in American soccer.
David Beckham, himself once a football icon, expressed pride in successfully bringing Messi to Miami.
“Our vision was to bring the best players to Inter Miami and this city, and we've done just that. We've brought the greatest player ever to play in this city,” Beckham said.
Beckham also emphasized that Messi maintains the same passion as when he first arrived.
“Messi remains as committed as day one and still craves victory,” said the Manchester United legend.
The contract extension until 2028 coincides with Inter Miami's major expansion move in 2026. The club plans to relocate its stadium downtown to Miami Freedom Park, a venue also described as Messi's dream project.
Now, every step Messi takes with Inter Miami is no longer just a legendary player's journey, but a story of dedication and love for the game. At an age beyond his prime, he chooses to remain where he finds peace, challenge, and renewed purpose.
And under Miami's blue skies, amid a city pulsating with Latin rhythms and American dreams, Lionel Messi continues writing his story — not to relive past glories, but to build something everlasting.
