Indonesia National Team head coach John Herdman has begun preparing the squad for the 2026 Hyundai Cup ASEAN Championship. Calling up 50 players into the wider squad marks the first step in the selection process to determine the best roster for Southeast Asia's largest football tournament, running 24 July to 26 August 2026.
As announced by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) via the official Kita Garuda website, all selected players will attend a series of national training camps, alongside going through multiple phases of assessment and selection.
This call-up does not guarantee a place in the final tournament squad. Instead, Herdman intends to directly observe every player's development before finalising the team line-up.

The Canadian coach's strategy is clearly reflected in the composition of the called-up players, as Herdman has combined established senior players with a number of emerging young talents.
The senior players are expected to provide leadership within the squad as well as pass on their experience to the younger athletes. In turn, the young prospects will be given full opportunity to prove their ability and earn a spot in the main squad.
Competition throughout the training period is expected to be highly intense. Once the Bali training camp concludes, the coaching staff will cut down the player pool, with the final tournament squad later announced through the Garuda Calling programme.
The 2026 Hyundai Cup ASEAN Championship will be played under a home and away format, with 11 Southeast Asian nations participating.
Indonesia has been drawn in Group A alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia and Timor Leste. This is set to be a competitive group, as both Vietnam and Singapore are established sides with long track records at the Southeast Asian level.
For this tournament, Pakansari Stadium located in Cibinong, Bogor Regency, West Java will serve as Indonesia's home ground.
The Garuda will open their campaign by hosting Cambodia on 27 July, before facing Vietnam on 3 August.
The call-up of 50 players signals that Herdman is looking to build healthy internal competition within the squad. With a relatively short preparation window, every player will need to perform consistently throughout the training period.
