Jhon Arias became Colombia's match-winning hero after scoring the only goal against Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 fixture, held at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday afternoon WIB. This result sends Los Cafeteros through to the Round of 16, where they will face Switzerland.

Ghana launched an immediate threat inside the opening minute. Thomas Partey fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, but the effort drifted wide of Camilo Vargas' goal.

Following this early chance, Colombia took full control of the game. Jefferson Lerma commanded the midfield to build consecutive attacking moves down both sides of the pitch.

Colombia appealed for a penalty in the 9th minute after Luis Diaz was brought down by Marvin Senaya inside the box. However referee Clement Turpin rejected the claims and ordered play to continue.

Colombia took the lead in the 14th minute. Receiving a cross from Luis Suarez on the right flank, Jhon Arias converted the delivery with a clean first-time finish past goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi.

Despite recording 77% ball possession midway through the first half, Colombia failed to extend their advantage. Ghana registered five attacking attempts over this period but could not find an equalising goal.

At the start of the second half, manager Nestor Lorenzo made a substitution, withdrawing James Rodriguez to introduce Richard Rios. This change did not alter Colombia's tactical approach, which continued to prioritise attacking runs down both wings.

In the 56th minute, Luis Diaz found the back of Ghana's net after collecting a pass from Jhon Arias. The goal was immediately disallowed, as Diaz had been standing in an offside position before receiving the ball.

Ghana pushed desperately for an equaliser right up until the final moments of the match, but Colombia's disciplined defensive line neutralised every attacking threat. No additional goals were scored at the end of normal time or stoppage time.

This 1-0 victory officially confirms Colombia's progression to the 2026 World Cup Round of 16.
