Spain's national football team advanced to the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 after beating Austria 3-0 in their Round of 32 fixture at Los Angeles Stadium, United States, on Friday WIB. Mikel Oyarzabal earned man of the match honours with a brace, while Pedro Porro scored La Furia Roja's remaining goal.

This victory confirms Spain's standing as one of the top title favourites. Beyond clinical finishing in the final third, Luis de la Fuente's side maintained relentless attacking momentum for the full duration of the match.

Spain registered their first chance in the 2nd minute, when Lamine Yamal struck a powerful effort from outside the penalty area that was safely gathered by Austria goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.

Spain sustained constant pressure throughout the first half. Marc Cucurella had put the ball in the net in the 30th minute from a close-range rebound, but the goal was ruled out for an earlier foul in the build-up play.

Schlager once again demonstrated his quality to deny another Oyarzabal chance, though the Austrian goalkeeper's resistance finally broke in the 36th minute. Collecting a left-sided delivery from Marc Cucurella, Oyarzabal converted with a precise first-time finish inside the box to put Spain ahead 1-0.

On the stroke of half time, Spain came close to doubling their advantage from an Alex Baena free kick. Lamine Yamal reacted fastest to the loose ball after the set piece struck the goal frame, only for Schlager to produce an outstanding reaction save. The 1-0 scoreline held through the interval.

Spain retained full control of the fixture after the restart. Austria registered their only notable threat in the 61st minute via a Sasa Kalajdzic header, which drifted harmlessly over Unai Simon's crossbar.

Spain's dominance yielded a second goal in the 66th minute. Pedro Porro met an accurate Alex Baena cross with a headed finish to extend the lead to 2-0, putting a comeback well out of Austria's reach.

Shortly before full time, a Lamine Yamal strike was cleared off the goal line at the last moment by an Austrian defender.

Oyarzabal rounded off Spain's win in the 89th minute. Running onto another Cucurella delivery, the Real Sociedad forward scored his second goal of the night to finalise the 3-0 scoreline.

This result sends La Furia Roja into the Round of 16 with full confidence, while Austria are knocked out of the 2026 World Cup.
