Japan's national team carries high confidence heading into their Round of 32 clash against Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. With an unbeaten record throughout the group stage, the Blue Samurai are optimistic ahead of the match against one of the tournament title favourites.

Japan secured their knockout stage spot after finishing as runners-up of Group F. A 1-1 draw against Sweden at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, United States on Friday WIB closed out their solid group stage campaign.

Despite failing to claim victory in their final group match, the single additional point was enough to advance Japan to the Round of 32. The Blue Samurai collected five total points from one win and two draws.

According to Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, maintaining this positive momentum will be a critical foundation as they face far greater challenges in the knockout phase.

"I believe we achieved the most important things: conceding as few goals as possible, remaining undefeated, and securing at least that one point," stated Suzuki, as quoted from FIFA's official website.

"Carrying this unbeaten momentum into our upcoming match against Brazil is absolutely a positive," added the Parma goalkeeper.

Japan's defensive record stood out as one of their core strengths throughout the group stage. Hajime Moriyasu's squad maintained disciplined defensive organisation while remaining clinical when converting attacking opportunities.

Zion Suzuki's contributions were a pivotal factor behind Japan's success. Japan had taken an early lead via a goal from Daizen Maeda before Anthony Elanga equalised. Suzuki produced multiple crucial saves to keep the score level through the match.

The most decisive moment arrived in stoppage time, when Suzuki tipped away Alexander Isak's headed effort. This outstanding save secured the point for Japan and preserved the team's unbeaten run.

An even sterner challenge now lies ahead. Five-time world champions Brazil will stand as Japan's opponents in the Round of 32, in what will serve as the first true test for the Blue Samurai.

For Japan, this fixture against Brazil is not simply a battle for a place in the next round. This duel also presents an opportunity to measure the full extent of the team's development and maturity when facing one of the greatest powerhouses in global football.
