Two goals from Kylian Mbappe helped France defeat Iraq 3-0 in the 2026 World Cup Group I fixture at Philadelphia Stadium, early Tuesday WIB. The remaining goal was scored by Ousmane Dembele.

With this result, France confirmed qualification for the Round of 32. Les Blues have collected six points from their opening two matches.

The match was suspended at the end of the first half due to adverse weather and active lightning risks.

FIFA activated Extreme Weather safety protocols to protect players, match officials, and all spectators inside the venue.

"A severe thunderstorm is approaching the stadium perimeter," stated the public warning displayed on stadium screens during the halt.

Match Timeline

France controlled proceedings and finished the first half holding a 1-0 lead over Iraq.
Les Bleus opened the scoring in the 14th minute via Kylian Mbappe.

The 27-year-old forward combined with Michael Olise before driving into the Iraq penalty area.

Mbappe then struck an effort into the top right corner of the net, well beyond the reach of Goalkeeper Ahmed Basil.

Iraq attempted to push back but failed to generate clear dangerous chances. Ali Alhamadi headed wide from Merchas Doski's delivery in their best opening of the half.

France retained their 1-0 lead at the break. However Extreme Weather forced the second half kick-off to be delayed for nearly two full hours.

Nine minutes after play resumed, Mbappe doubled France's advantage.

The goal came after goalkeeper Ahmed Basil mishandled a back pass from Ahmed Qasem. The loose ball fell to Ousmane Dembele, who teed up Mbappe for a simple finish.

Dembele sealed the 3-0 victory for France in the 66th minute, firing a powerful low drive into the far corner of the Iraq goal.
