Arts and cultural performances are one of the main magnets that draw tourists to a destination. Amid rising interest in experience-based and Cultural Tourism, various art festivals function not only as spaces for creative expression, but also as a driving force for the tourism sector.
The 2026 Bali Arts Festival (PKB) has been officially opened in Denpasar, Bali. This largest and longest-Running cultural event on the Island of the Gods presents a wide range of art performances that blend traditional values, creativity, and local cultural preservation efforts.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa assessed that arts and cultural attractions play a critical role in increasing Tourist Arrivals, especially when held coinciding with Holiday seasons.

"Arts attractions or stage performances are one of the main draws for tourists. This edition is additionally held right during school breaks and the summer holiday period," stated Ni Luh.
PKB 2026 runs from 13 June until 11 July, carrying the theme "Atma Kerthi: Jiwa Sidha Parisudha". This year marks the 48th edition since the festival was first held in 1979, and it has once again been included as a flagship programme under Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2026.
PKB's inclusion in the KEN programme confirms that this festival is not only a source of pride for Bali, but also one of Indonesia's leading cultural events.
Throughout the duration of the festival, visitors may enjoy diverse artworks that serve as spaces for cultural reflection, while also illustrating efforts to maintain balance between sacred, social and ecological aspects in Balinese community life.
For the tourism industry, the consistent organisation of PKB across almost five decades stands as proof that culture can form a solid foundation for building sustainable destination appeal.
"This demonstrates Bali's strong commitment to preserving and developing Cultural Heritage as a driving force for regional development," she added.
For this year, the government expects PKB to attract over 1.6 million visitors. This target is considered realistic given the high tourist enthusiasm for the various arts and cultural performances presented throughout the festival.
As part of the opening series, visitors were presented with Peed Aya, a cultural parade showcasing arts, culture, natural wealth, economy and Tourism Potential from all regencies and cities across Bali.
