Shakira has once again become the centre of global entertainment attention, after being entrusted to perform the official 2026 World Cup song titled "Dai Dai". For this latest music project, the Colombian singer collaborated with Nigerian artist Burna Boy, with the track carrying messages of unity, resilience, and global spirit.
For Shakira, returning to be part of the world's biggest Football tournament holds very special meaning. In an interview with People Magazine, the artist behind the hit "Hips Don't Lie" shared that she always feels a distinct, one-of-a-kind atmosphere every time the World Cup takes place.
"Every World Cup is always magical. And I believe this one will truly be about bringing people together, at a moment that is deeply sensitive both socially and politically," Shakira stated, as quoted by People on Thursday, 11 June 2026.

This is not Shakira's first involvement with the World Cup. Her name has become an iconic part of the tournament's entertainment history, ever since she performed "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" for the 2010 World Cup hosted in South Africa. That track remains one of the most popular sports anthems of all time.
Now, over a decade later, Shakira has once again been trusted to bring the tournament's atmosphere to life through "Dai Dai". This song stands as a symbol of how music continues to play a vital role in uniting millions of fans across every nation.
In a separate interview with Vogue, Shakira explained that she sees a profound parallel between music and football. According to her, both are able to stir emotion and passion in people all around the world.
"If there is one thing I know for certain, it is this: music and football move the masses. Both awaken passion inside people. That passion is what unites them," Shakira said.
What makes "Dai Dai" stand out is not just the cross-border collaboration with Burna Boy. The track also received creative input from British musician Ed Sheeran, who is credited as one of the songwriters.
Shakira shared that the creative process working alongside Ed Sheeran went smoothly, as both artists shared the same vision: to create a song that would resonate with listeners from every cultural background.
"We worked incredibly well together, we understood one another perfectly. I wanted this track to be a fusion of many different elements. I wanted to bring Afrobeats tones, Caribbean touches, guitar lines, all of it. And Burna Boy was the perfect final piece. I absolutely love his voice," she explained, as quoted by Vogue.
Created for a global audience, "Dai Dai" incorporates five different languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French and Japanese. Shakira confirmed the song carries messages of optimism and unyielding perseverance.
Popularity for "Dai Dai" surged further following the release of its official music video on 14 May. The visual features a line-up of global World Football stars including Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Harry Kane, Vinícius Júnior, Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala and Erling Haaland.
Beyond that, the music video also pays tribute to a number of world Football Legends including the late Diego Armando Maradona, and also features iconic players such as Pelé, Kaká and Ronaldo Nazário.
The success of "Dai Dai" is reflected in its digital platform performance. The official music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube just two weeks after release, making it one of the fastest growing World Cup theme songs in recent years.
