Cesc Fabregas' Magic Behind Como's Success, Praised as the Best Coach in the World

Not many young coaches are capable of transforming the identity of an entire Football club in a short period of time. Cesc Fabregas has proven himself to be a young manager with vision far above the average. The Spanish tactician has just written an incredible underdog story with Como 1907.

Como's rise to reach the elite stage of European football feels like a modern fairy tale. Only a few years ago, the club based at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium was still fighting for survival in Serie D. Now, they are set to compete on the Champions League stage after finishing the 2025/2026 Serie A campaign in 4th position on the final league table.

This historic achievement cannot be separated from Fabregas' role as head coach. The former midfield orchestrator for Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea and the Spain National Team is now widely recognised as the central figure behind Como's extraordinary transformation.

Fabregas' coaching career has progressed at remarkable speed. He took his first official step into management coaching Como's U-19 squad in July 2023, before being part of the coaching team that secured promotion to Serie A as Osian Roberts' assistant in early 2024.

After obtaining his UEFA Pro coaching license, Fabregas was formally appointed as Como's first team head coach in July 2024.

In his debut season managing in Italy's top division, Como finished in 10th place -- a result already considered outstanding for a newly promoted club.

Yet that milestone was only the beginning. During the 2025/2026 Season, Fabregas guided Como to perform far beyond all pre-season expectations.

Consistent performances from Nico Paz and the rest of the squad across the full campaign secured their 4th placed finish. This position guaranteed Como their very first Champions League qualification in the entire history of the club.

The achievement was made even more remarkable by the fact Como finished above two Serie A giants: AC Milan and Juventus.

Como 1907 Sporting Director Carlalberto Ludi has heaped unreserved praise on Fabregas. According to Ludi, the man who developed under Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho possesses qualities almost unmatched by any other active coach.

"For me, Cesc Fabregas is the best coach in the world," Ludi stated, in comments carried by TuttoMercatoWeb.

"If anyone claims there is a better coach right now, show them to me. I cannot imagine such a person exists. Everyone can see how his team plays, and the way he conducts himself and communicates."

Ludi explained Fabregas' greatness is not only visible in on-pitch performances. There is a less public side to the coach that he believes forms the core of his success.

"There is something most people do not see. He has the ability to listen properly to people he trusts, weigh up all input fairly, then make the final call on what he believes is the right path."

"And the extraordinary thing? He almost always makes the correct decision. That is an incredibly rare, special quality for any person to have," Ludi concluded.

This level of praise reflects the scale of Fabregas' impact on Como's development. Still very young by professional coaching standards, he has already proven he can build a competitive, modern playing side unafraid to challenge the long-held dominance of Italy's traditional powerhouse clubs.
