Xabi Alonso Speaks Out Regarding Enzo Fernandez's Future at Chelsea

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has issued a firm statement regarding Enzo Fernandez's future. During his official introduction as The Blues' head coach, the Spanish manager confirmed he wants the Argentine midfielder to remain part of the first team squad at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso's statement has effectively quashed recent speculation linking Enzo with a departure from Chelsea. The 25-year-old midfielder had previously been reported to be open to pursuing a new challenge, and was rumoured to have appeared on Real Madrid's transfer radar.

Alonso confirmed he has held direct discussions with Enzo regarding his long term future, but refused to reveal any details of the conversation to the public.

"I want Enzo to stay here with us. We have spoken already, but the content of that discussion will remain a private internal matter," stated the Spanish coach, in remarks quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Enzo Fernandez's Future Remains A Major Talking Point

Enzo Fernandez is currently on international duty with Argentina, who are preparing to face England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final. Even amidst this international campaign, his club future remains the subject of intense debate.

Real Madrid had previously been linked with interest in signing the former Benfica midfielder, however the Spanish giants issued a formal denial last week that they were pursuing a transfer for Enzo.

To date, no other club has been seriously connected with a move for the player. Chelsea are not expected to sanction his departure easily, with the club placing an approximate valuation of £120 million (around 2.90 trillion Indonesian Rupiah) on Enzo.

A Core Chelsea Player Since Arriving From Benfica

Enzo Fernandez completed his transfer to Chelsea in 2023, following a standout World Cup campaign with Argentina that saw the nation claim the 2023 world title. Chelsea paid a record breaking transfer fee to secure his services from Portuguese side Benfica.

Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Enzo has established himself as one of the most influential players in Chelsea's midfield line up.

He has made 169 senior appearances across all competitions, scoring 32 goals, and played a key role as Chelsea lifted the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup trophies.
