English Premier League club Aston Villa have ended their long wait for European glory after winning the UEFA Europa League for the 2025/2026 Season. Unai Emery's squad shut out German side SC Freiburg with a convincing 3-0 scoreline in the final match held at Tupras Stadium, Istanbul, Turkey, during the early hours of WIB on Thursday 21 May 2026.
This victory is no ordinary trophy for The Villans. This title marks Aston Villa's first major European honour in 44 years, while also solidifying Unai Emery's status as the undisputed "king" of the Europa League.
The Spanish head coach has become the first manager ever to collect five Europa League titles, following prior successful campaigns with Sevilla in 2014, 2015, 2016, and Villarreal in 2021.

Right from the opening whistle, Aston Villa competed with high intensity. Emery's side pinned Freiburg back with sharp transition attacks that continuously troubled the Bundesliga representative's defensive line.
The first chance of the match came in the 3rd minute, when Youri Tielemans initiated a rapid counter-attack before playing the ball through to Morgan Rogers. However, Rogers' powerful strike was parried away by Freiburg Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu.
Freiburg briefly threatened in the 17th minute from a dead ball situation. Vincenzo Grifo sent a free kick into the penalty area, only for it to be cleared by Victor Lindelof. Nicolas Hofler latched onto the loose ball, but his attempt flew well off target.
Aston Villa's dominance finally produced a goal in the 40th minute. Built from a structured corner routine, Morgan Rogers laid a pass to the edge of the penalty box where Youri Tielemans connected with a fierce low volley into the bottom left corner of Freiburg's goal.
The goal put the score at 1-0, and boosted the confidence of the Premier League side.
Deep into first half stoppage time, Emiliano Buendia displayed his world class ability with a sharp body turn before unleashing a spectacular left-footed strike from outside the penalty area. This brilliant goal doubled Aston Villa's advantage, closing the first half with a 2-0 scoreline.
After the second half kicked off, Freiburg attempted to chase the deficit. However, the German club struggled to create any clear cut chances due to Aston Villa's tight and disciplined game structure.
Instead, it was Aston Villa who extended their lead midway through the second half. Buendia's driving run down the left flank ended with a low near-post cross that Morgan Rogers finished cleanly for The Villans' third goal.
Holding a three goal advantage, Aston Villa controlled the rest of the match comfortably. John McGinn almost extended the lead further from a 70th minute corner, but Amadou Onana's header bounced off the Freiburg goalpost.
The 3-0 scoreline stood firm until the final whistle blew, sealing Aston Villa's victory.
