Two giant Saudi Pro League clubs concluded the Asian competitive season with polar opposite stories. While Al Nassr suffered crushing disappointment in the AFC Champions League (ACL) Two final, their domestic rival Al Ahli cemented their dominance by successfully retaining the AFC Champions League (ACL) Elite title.
All attention fell on Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr, who missed out on the continental trophy after a 0-1 defeat against Gamba Osaka in the ACL Two final hosted at Al-Awwal Park, Riyadh. Deniz Hummet scored the only goal of the match during the first half to seal the result.
Playing in front of their home crowd, Al Nassr failed to convert their superior ball possession advantage and could not find a way through the well-organised defensive line of the Japanese side.

Cristiano Ronaldo Could End Title Drought at Al Nassr, Here's What It Takes
This loss extends Ronaldo's trophy drought since moving to the Saudi club. The Portuguese forward once again could not deliver the international title that Al Nassr had set as their primary season objective.
Post-match scenes exposed the depth of Ronaldo's disappointment. He was absent entirely when his Al Nassr teammates ascended the podium to collect their silver medals.
According to Metro reports, Ronaldo headed straight down the players' tunnel to the dressing rooms immediately after full time. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner wore clear frustration on his face as he left the Al-Awwal Park pitch.
As a result, Jorge Jesus' squad completed the medal ceremony without their captain. Meanwhile, Gamba Osaka players celebrated their massive upset victory on opposition home ground.
Al Ahli Successfully Retain Their Title
In stark contrast to Al Nassr, Al Ahli upheld their supremacy at the top tier of Asian football. The Jeddah-based club, featuring English striker Ivan Toney, retained their ACL Elite crown with a 1-0 extra time win over Machida Zelvia in the final held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
The tightly contested match remained deadlocked goalless through 90 minutes of normal time. Al Ahli finally broke through in additional time via Firas Al Buraikan's strike, which secured their championship victory.
This achievement marks the second AFC Champions League title in Al Ahli's Club History, having previously lifted the trophy last season after beating Kawasaki Frontale in the final.
Al Ahli's success has been widely attributed to the leadership of German head coach Matthias Jaissle. Since his appointment in July 2023, Jaissle has built Al Ahli into one of the most consistent competitive forces across Asian Football.
The contrasting fortunes of Al Nassr and Al Ahli lay bare the brutal competitiveness for Saudi clubs on the continental stage. Massive financial investment and star-studded squads do not guarantee silverware, while consistent discipline and structured tactical organisation remain the fundamental keys to success in Asian club competitions.
