2026 Cadillac Championship: Young Edges Scheffler, Trump Applauds

The presence of United States President Donald Trump brought a different atmosphere to the Championship. Amidst super tight security and pressure, Cameron Young delivered a dominant performance to seal a convincing victory at Trump National Doral.

Initially, Young had doubts about whether his wife Kelsey's decision to bring their two children from Jupiter, Florida on a two-hour trip was the right choice given the unusual security situation. 

However, those doubts vanished when he closed the tournament with a six-stroke lead over Scottie Scheffler.

"I'm incredibly happy my family came and witnessed such an important moment firsthand," said Young.

He closed the final round with a score of 4-under 68, finishing at 19-under total to clinch his second win this year, following his Players Championship title two months ago.

Young acknowledged that Sunday felt different from a typical PGA Tour final round. Trump arrived shortly after Young's tee-off, which had been delayed due to weather. 

He came with several family members, including his grandson and young Miami Golfer Kai Trump, and stayed until the final putt.

Trump was even among those giving a standing ovation as Young walked towards the final fairway.

"Once the round started, I stayed focused on executing my game. But beforehand, the atmosphere felt different because of all the Secret Service and Police security," Young said. 

"I tried to enter through the usual gate but was stopped by officers and had to take a long detour. Little things like this slightly changed the rhythm of the day, which was already disrupted by the weather delay."

Beyond the unique atmosphere, Young also interacted directly with Trump after the match.

"He has great appreciation for our game. I've met him before, and he genuinely loves golf and understands the quality of players on the PGA Tour," Young stated. 

"I also thanked him for hosting this tournament."

Young concluded with personal reflections on the experience.

"It was a very different experience. He's a fascinating and influential figure. Playing in front of him was an honor," said Young. 

"I'm also grateful to him and his organization for providing this incredible course so we could play a major tournament. This place is very special, and I'm happy the tournament is being held here again."

With this win, Young further solidifies his status as one of the season's most consistent golfers, while demonstrating his ability to remain focused amidst intense scrutiny and unusual circumstances.
