Madrid – Indonesia's proud Women's Doubles pair, Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen, have successfully advanced to the quarter-finals of the Tennis Tournament Madrid Open 2026. This achievement came after they impressively defeated the sixth seeds, Cristina Bucsa (Spain) and Nicole Melichar-Martinez (United States).

Competing in the Round of 16 on Monday (27/4/2026), this Red and White duo dominated the match to secure a straight sets victory of 6-4, 6-2 in 1 hour 17 minutes.

Mature Strategy and Completed Revenge Mission
Aldila revealed that their cohesion and consistent execution of strategy from the start of the match were the main keys to their victory. This win felt particularly satisfying as it also completed their revenge mission.

Previously, Aldila and Janice had suffered defeats against the Bucsa/Melichar-Martinez pair while playing with different partners (Aldila lost at the Australian Open with Giuliana Olmos, and Janice lost at Indian Wells with Chan Hao-ching).

"We both played very well today, our strategy from the beginning was good, and we were able to maintain momentum from start to finish," said Aldila on Monday.

"Today we already knew their strengths and weaknesses because we've competed against them before. We also played solidly, didn't make many errors, and won many deuce points in both sets," she added.

The Numbers Speak: Dominant Indonesian Statistics
The resilience of Aldila/Janice was evident not only in the final score but also clearly reflected in the official WTA match statistics:

  • Double Faults: Aldila/Janice played cleaner with only 2 double faults versus their opponents' 3.
  • Break Point Effectiveness: The SEA Games 2025 Gold medalists successfully converted 5 out of 9 break point opportunities, outperforming the Spanish-American pair.
  • Serve Accuracy: Aldila/Janice landed 67.3% of their first serves, winning 69.7% of points when their first serve was in.

Looking Ahead to the Quarter-Finals
Their next challenge awaits in the quarter-finals where Aldila/Janice's consistency will be tested against the formidable veteran pair Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund.

This quarter-final clash will undoubtedly be a stern test and proof of consistency for Aldila/Janice.

The Zvonareva/Siegemund pairing is no ordinary opponent; Zvonareva's veteran experience with multiple Grand Slam titles combined with Siegemund's net aggression and tactical intelligence make them one of the most respected doubles teams on the WTA circuit.

Their victory over top seeds Jasmine Paolini/Sara Errani in the previous round strongly signals this duo is in peak form, demanding heightened alertness and extra composure from the Indonesian representatives if they wish to secure their path to the semi-finals.
