Chelsea has finally made a major decision amid the team's performance crisis by sacking manager Liam Rosenior. This decisive step was taken after The Blues suffered a series of poor results worsening their position in the Premier League standings approaching the end of the season.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Chelsea expressed appreciation to Rosenior for his dedication while managing the London-based club since earlier this year.

The club management also emphasized that change was necessary to salvage this season's targets.

“Chelsea thanks Rosenior who has worked hard while being part of The Blues since the start of this year.”

As a swift step, Chelsea appointed Calum McFarlane as interim manager until the end of the season.

He will lead the team in efforts to secure a ticket for next season's European Competition while maintaining their chances of winning the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, the club has also begun searching for a permanent manager for the long-term project.

Rosenior was only appointed as Chelsea Manager on January 8, 2026, replacing Enzo Maresca, but his tenure ended much sooner than anticipated.

During his time managing Chelsea, the English manager led the team in 23 matches with an average of 1.52 points per game.

He briefly guided The Blues to the Round of 16 of the Champions League before their journey was halted by Paris Saint-Germain.

However, performance in domestic competitions became the main factor in his downfall. Five consecutive defeats in the Premier League significantly diminished Chelsea's chances of finishing in next season's Champions League zone, ultimately leading management to opt for a change in the manager's seat.

The peak of disappointment came when Chelsea was humiliated by Brighton & Hove Albion with a crushing 0-3 score at the AMEX Stadium early Wednesday WIB. That defeat was a devastating blow to the team struggling to break into the Champions League zone.

Brighton took an early lead through Ferdi Kadioglu before adding two more goals in the second half via Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck. Chelsea failed to offer significant resistance throughout the match and performed well below expectations.

The additional three points propelled Brighton to sixth place in the Standings with 50 points, while Chelsea dropped to eighth place with 48 points.

With the season entering a crucial phase, Chelsea can only hope the coaching change will bring an instant effect.

The club's main focus is to return to a winning path and maintain their chances of participating in next season's European Competition.

The decision to sack Liam Rosenior marks a new chapter at Stamford Bridge. Now all eyes are on Calum McFarlane and the next permanent manager.
