Jakarta – Indonesia's pride, women's Tennis Player Janice Tjen, prepares to embark on her clay court season by making her debut at the prestigious WTA 1000 Madrid Open 2026. Interestingly, Janice won't fight alone; she will partner with her compatriot, Aldila Sutjiadi, to compete in the doubles sector.
Based on the official schedule released by the organizers on Wednesday (22/4/2026), this formidable Indonesian duo faces a tough challenge in the first round. They are scheduled to meet the cross-nation pair of Martha Kostyuk (Ukraine) and Clara Tauson (Denmark).
Indonesian Duo's Mission to Rise Again
The match in Madrid is a crucial moment for Janice and Aldila to regain their best form. Previously, this pair had fallen in the first round of the Charleston Open 2026. However, history shows they have strong chemistry, proven when they successfully clinched the WTA 250 Chennai Open Title in India last November 2025.

For Janice, the Madrid Open also serves as a proving ground after she was forced to withdraw from the Rouen Open last week due to an injury sustained while representing the Red and White (Indonesia) in the Billie Jean King (BJK) Cup.
Singles Sector Challenge
Besides playing doubles, Janice, currently ranked world number 39, will also compete in the singles draw. Despite some schedule changes due to withdrawals of several seeded players, Janice is now confirmed to face Russian player Alina Charaeva (WTA rank 129) at the iconic La Caja Magica tennis stadium.
This opening match is crucial for Janice to break the negative trend following unsatisfactory results in her four previous tournaments, including Indian Wells and the Miami Open.
Positive Capital from the Billie Jean King Cup
Despite recent difficulties in individual tournaments, Janice brings high confidence from her impressive performance with the Indonesian Team. She recently succeeded in leading Indonesia to qualify for the play-off qualifier round in the BJK Cup Asia Oceania Group I tie in New Delhi, early April 2026.
The fighting spirit shown in that team event is hoped to transform into victories in Madrid, while also solidifying her position within the world's top 40.
Madrid Open 2026 Highlights:
Doubles: Janice Tjen/Aldila Sutjiadi vs Martha Kostyuk/Clara Tauson.
Singles: Janice Tjen (39 WTA) vs Alina Charaeva (129 WTA).
Venue: La Caja Magica, Madrid, Spain.
Opportunity on the Red Clay and World Ranking Projection
Janice's success in adapting to the characteristics of the Madrid clay, known for its high elevation, will be the key to earning maximum points at this 1000-level tournament. As the highest-tier warm-up event before heading to the Grand Slam French Open, a positive result in the Spanish capital has significant potential to boost Janice's position back into the world's top 30.
With technical support from Aldila in doubles, the Madrid Open 2026 is not just a debut stage, but a crucial moment for these two Indonesian heroines to prove their consistency at the most elite tournament on the WTA calendar.
