The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has set high targets ahead of the 2026 Thomas & Uber Cup. Chairman Fadil Imran firmly aims for the top spot in the men's sector.
The world's most prestigious badminton team tournament will take place from April 24th to May 3rd in Horsens, Denmark. The competition atmosphere is expected to be tight, with traditional powerhouses like China remaining the main benchmark.
In his official statement, Fadil acknowledged the global landscape still places China above Indonesia. However, the Red and White squad still has a chance to create surprises on the court.

"Our target, of course, looking at the calculations and rankings issued by the BWF, we are below China. Hopefully, on the court, you know, all situations on the court involve many factors. We hope to reach the final for the Thomas Cup and hopefully the players can bring pride to all of us," said Fadil.
This target is not mere empty optimism. Indonesia has a strong tradition in the Thomas Cup. With an increasingly mature player composition, the chance to break through to the final is wide open.
Meanwhile, in the women's sector, PBSI has chosen a more realistic approach. The Indonesian Uber team is targeted to first advance from the group stage before aiming higher in the knockout phase.
"Then for Uber, grouped with Canada, Australia, China, and Chinese Taipei, we hope to overcome Canada and Australia," Fadil stated.
This strategy reflects PBSI's caution in assessing opponents' strength while providing space for young players to develop without excessive pressure.
Fadil also emphasized the importance of a relaxed playing mentality. According to him, the atmosphere of team championships like the Thomas & Uber Cup is very different from individual tournaments, making psychological readiness key.
The Indonesian team is scheduled to depart for Denmark on April 16th, with an adaptation agenda for weather and court conditions starting from April 18th to 21st. This preparation is considered crucial to minimize non-technical obstacles during matches.
In the group stage, the Indonesian Thomas team will compete in Group D alongside France, Thailand, and Algeria. Quality-wise, Indonesia is favored to advance but must maintain consistency from the very first match.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Uber team is grouped in Group C with Chinese Taipei, Canada, and Australia. Competition is predicted to be fierce, especially in the battle for the top two positions to advance to the knockout phase.
With the final target already set, Indonesia's journey in the 2026 Thomas & Uber Cup will be the true test.
It's not just about technique, but also mentality, strategy, and the ability to handle crucial moments on the world stage.
