Controversy Over Bali Travel Advisory, South Korean Embassy Apologizes and Corrects

The Indonesian government did not allow the Travel advisory to Bali issued by South Korea to spread unchecked. The Ministry of Tourism has requested clarification from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Indonesia.

This clarification was conveyed by the Korean Embassy during a meeting with the Tourism Ministry alongside Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This step served as a direct response to ensure circulating information wouldn't create misperceptions.

In the meeting, the Korean Embassy apologized for the travel advisory posting. They explained it resulted from an oversight by the Consul General when responding to citizen inquiries regarding several criminal cases in Bali.

The advisory was intended as a precautionary measure for South Korean citizens planning visits, without aiming to harm Bali's image as a Tourist Destination.

According to the Tourism Ministry, the Korean Embassy has updated the advisory narrative with a more general approach and removed details of cases involving foreigners in Bali.

Going forward, the Korean Embassy stated it will communicate more intensively with the Indonesian government before issuing sensitive information, while also correcting media reports in South Korea regarding Bali Tourism conditions.

The Indonesian government responded with openness. Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana ensured international tourists, including those from South Korea, remain welcome.

"Indonesia will continue to welcome tourists from all over the world, including from the Republic of Korea, to enjoy the beauty and hospitality of Indonesian Tourism," stated Widiyanti.

On the other hand, strengthening destination security isn't just rhetoric. Alongside police and regional governments, field surveillance has been tightened from hotels, entertainment venues, to tourist areas.

Administrative measures are also being clarified. The tourism industry is instructed to ensure disciplined guest verification systems, including integrated reporting of Foreign Tourist data.

Security is reinforced at busiest spots like Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu through integrated posts. The goal is to accelerate response and prevent incident escalation.

Additionally, law enforcement operates in parallel. Violations ranging from traffic offenses to misuse of stay permits by foreigners are addressed through measured routine operations.

The Indonesian government is fully committed to maintaining Bali as a safe, comfortable, world-class Tourist Destination. Tourists are advised to utilize official government-provided services during their stay in Indonesia.
