The Masters Tournament has always been the center of attention in the golf world. Besides its high prestige, the Green Jacket victory symbol is also one of the most prestigious achievements for golfers.
In last year's edition, the total tournament prize money reached $21 million USD, distributed to the top 50 golfers. The defending Champion, Rory McIlroy, took home $4.2 million USD, approximately 20 percent of the total purse.
With this year's tournament about to begin, attention now focuses on the prize money to be contested and How much the champion will receive.

The Masters 2026 Prize Potentially Increases
As of now, the official total purse for the 2026 edition has not been announced. However, based on last year's trend which set a record of $21 million USD, that figure could potentially rise again.
This increase is also predicted to be a response to other competitions like The Players Championship, which this year offered a total purse reaching $25 million USD.
The winner of that tournament, Cameron Young, took home $4.5 million USD—about 18 percent of the total prize—setting a new benchmark in elite Golf Tournament prize competition.
What is The Masters Champion's Prize?
Although no official figure exists for this year, for reference, Rory McIlroy earned $4.2 million USD when winning the previous edition at Augusta.
Since 2025, the winner's share has increased to 20 percent of the total purse, up from the previous 18 percent. However, it's uncertain whether this percentage will change again for the 2026 edition.
For comparison, in 2024 Scottie Scheffler took home $3.6 million USD, while Jon Rahm received $3.24 million USD as champion in 2023.
Prize Distribution System
One unique aspect of The Masters is its prize distribution system for a Tie. If several players finish in the same position, the prize money for those positions is combined and divided equally.
For example, if Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy finish tied for second place, the prize money for second, third, and fourth positions would be pooled and divided equally three ways.
With this system, each player still receives a fair share based on their final position.
The Pursuit of Prize and Prestige
Beyond the trophy and Green Jacket, the substantial prize money makes The Masters one of the most competitive tournaments on the global golf calendar. With the potential for an increased total purse, the 2026 edition is predicted to attract even more attention from elite golfers.
Now, all eyes are on who will emerge as champion and how large a prize they will take home from Augusta.
