The excitement for the 2026 World Cup is palpable across the globe. Following the conclusion of the October 2025 FIFA Match Day schedule, 28 nations have now officially secured their spots in the final tournament of football's most prestigious event on the planet.

The grand tournament, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada next June–July, is already generating the scent of fierce competition, even before the first whistle blows.

New Wave from Africa and Asia

October brought surprises to the African continent and Asia. Ten new nations joined the list of teams that had already booked their tickets to the finals. FIFA confirmed them as Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and England.

From Africa, the dominance of major footballing nations remains evident. Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Senegal all secured top positions in their respective groups during the first round of CAF zone Qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Qatar became the kings of Asia by securing the top spots in Group B and Group A of the AFC zone's fourth round Qualifiers.

From Europe, England made a small piece of history by becoming the first team from the continent to confirm their ticket to the 2026 World Cup. With 18 points from six matches, The Three Lions are now uncatchable in Group K of the UEFA zone Qualifiers.

With the addition of these 10 new teams, a total of 28 countries have now officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup. Here is the breakdown by confederation:

Rivalry Intensifies

With the majority of tickets now allocated, the global power map is beginning to take shape. Asia looks sharper with two debutants, Uzbekistan and Jordan, ready to steal the spotlight. In Africa, Cape Verde writes a new chapter by securing their debut on the world stage.

Meanwhile, from Europe, England appears increasingly confident looking ahead to 2026. Their new generation is maturing, and with a squad full of young stars, The Three Lions clearly don't intend to be mere participants.

Traditional powerhouses like Argentina, Brazil, and France remain favorites, but this time the battlefield will be more open. With the 48-team World Cup format and three host nations, the race to the world summit will be wilder, more intense, and undoubtedly more thrilling.

With 28 spots already claimed, the remaining 20-plus seats will be contested through intercontinental qualifying paths and the playoffs. But one thing is certain: the buzz is already there. The magnificent stadiums of North America are preparing to welcome thousands of supporters from around the world, ready to sing, cheer, and create the euphoria that only one event can generate – the World Cup.
