Age is often seen as a barrier in professional Sports. Yet Marco Trungelliti has flipped this narrative. At 36 years old, he is poised to make history as the Oldest Tennis Player to break into the world's top 100 rankings in the last half-century.

This rare achievement in modern tennis came after a dramatic victory by the Argentine Player over Corentin Moutet in the Quarter Finals of Morocco's Hassan Grand Prix II.

Trungelliti triumphed 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a match that not only advanced him to the semifinals but also propelled him to world number 85 in the live ATP Tour rankings.

"Reaching the top 100 has been a major career goal. Over the past two years, I've felt closer both in gameplay and mentality," stated Trungelliti, quoted from the ATP Tour's official site on Saturday.

"Physically, I'm performing better than ever, which helps tremendously. This is incredible," he added.

This historic milestone wasn't instantaneous. Trungelliti entered the Morocco week as world number 117, just seven days after clinching an ATP Challenger title in Kigali, Rwanda.

He even navigated qualifying rounds before upsetting seeded players, including world number 52 Kamil Majchrzak and world number 32 Moutet.

Ten consecutive victories form the foundation of this extraordinary resurgence.

Current points calculations confirm competitors below him lack sufficient opportunities to overtake him before the official April 6th ranking update, securing his inaugural entry into the global top 100.

Throughout his career, Trungelliti had never surpassed his 2019 peak ranking of world number 112.

Across 19 professional seasons, he's contested 963 singles matches, made nine main-Draw appearances at Grand Slam events with four wins, and collected six ATP Challenger Tour trophies.

Now, in a phase typically signaling career twilight for athletes, Trungelliti is hitting his performance peak.

Scheduled to face Luciano Darderi in the semifinals, he has already etched personal history – proving age is merely a number regardless of the outcome.
