Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, numerous predictions have emerged. One such prediction comes from the Opta supercomputer simulation, which places the Spanish National Team as the strongest candidate to win the World Football spectacle.
This edition of the tournament will be the largest in history, hosted across three countries: Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Additionally, this tournament introduces a new format featuring 48 teams.
According to a Marca report, the Opta supercomputer gives Spain a 15.83 percent chance of lifting the trophy.

The team managed by Luis de la Fuente is deemed to possess an ideal balance of blending young talent with experience.
Although displaced from the top of the FIFA Rankings by France, La Roja's performance is still considered stable. It is this consistency that places Spain at the top of this data-based prediction.
France follows closely in second place with a 12.77 percent chance. Les Bleus are predicted to reach their third consecutive final, an impressive feat in modern World Football.
Below them, the England National Team and the Argentina National Team both have chances above 10 percent.
Interestingly, the defending champions Argentina are not favored to retain their title.
Meanwhile, Portugal, relying on veteran figure Cristiano Ronaldo in their quest for a first world title, rounds out the top five with a 6.92 percent chance.
Traditional powerhouses Brazil and Germany have to settle for positions outside the top five, in sixth and seventh place respectively. However, their long history and squad depth mean both remain serious threats.
With relatively slim probability differences, the competition among the top teams is guaranteed to be tight. The new format also opens wider opportunities, as the eight best third-placed teams can still advance to the Round of 16.
According to the Opta simulation, South Korea, Iran, Australia, Austria, Côte d'Ivoire, Sweden, Ghana, and Qatar are projected to advance via that route.
