"I came on holiday with my family all the way from Mataram to see the sunset from Bukit Merese," said Yuli, a tourist from Mataram City.
Sunset and Tradition, A Unique Holiday Combo
It's not just about the scenery; this holiday moment also coincided with a distinctive tradition of the Sasak people, Lebaran Topat.
This tradition is usually celebrated a week after Eid al-Fitr, so many travelers also experienced the local culture while enjoying their holiday.
Bukit Merese itself is known as a relaxing spot to enjoy views of the open sea, stretches of green hills, and Lombok's characteristic white sand. No heavy trekking is needed; just a leisurely walk, and you get a premium-class view.
A Small Paradise Bringing Big Profits
The influx of tourists has also had a positive impact on local residents. From parking attendants to vendors and small business owners, everyone got a share of the profit.
"Alhamdulillah. From morning until evening, everything I sold was gone," said Mat, a seller of grilled minced fish satay (telur lilit) in the area.
Snack prices here are still budget-friendly, ranging from Rp5,000 to Rp20,000, perfect for travelers wanting a bite while waiting for sunset.
Mandalika on the Rise
According to data from the Central Lombok Tourism Office Lombok Tengah, total Tourist Visits during the Eid Holiday reached around 14 thousand people.
"The number of tourist visits until Tuesday reached around 14 thousand people. This is counted from Sunday to Tuesday during the Eid holiday period," he said.
The busiest destinations are still dominated by beach areas in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK Mandalika). Besides Bukit Merese, many tourists also visited waterfalls like Benang Kelambu Waterfall and Benang Stokel Waterfall.
"The number of visits is estimated to continue increasing. The peak of tourist arrivals is predicted to occur over the weekend, coinciding with the Lebaran Topat celebration and the end of the school holiday period," he said.
