Erling Haaland once again demonstrated his clinical finishing instinct in front of goal as the standout performer behind Norway's victory over Brazil in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16. The striker stated he only requires one or two clear chances to shift the momentum of an entire match.

The Manchester City forward scored both goals as Norway secured a 2-1 win over Brazil at the New York Stadium, United States on Monday 6 July 2026 WIB. This result marked the first time in history that the Norwegian national team, nicknamed Løvene, have qualified for the World Cup quarter finals.

"That is just how it usually plays out. If I get one or two proper chances, more often than not they end up in the back of the net. I couldn't even tell you exactly how I do it, that is just the way it works for me," Haaland stated in an interview published on the official FIFA website.

Haaland's two goals arrived in the 79th and 90th minutes. His opener was a powerful, well-placed header connecting with Andreas Schjelderup's cross, while his second goal came as a low driven finish that Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker was unable to reach.

Brazil only pulled one goal back via Neymar's penalty during second half injury time. This consolation strike was not enough to prevent the Selecao from being eliminated, ending their World Cup campaign at the Round of 16 stage.

With these two goals against Brazil, Haaland now holds a total of seven goals at the 2026 World Cup. This tally puts him level alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé at the top of the tournament's provisional top goalscorer rankings.
