FIFA's confirmation of the schedule for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 strongly signals Southeast Asia's entry into a new phase in the regional football calendar. FIFA has confirmed this Southeast Asian international tournament is planned for September-October 2026.

Quoted from FIFA's website, FIFA finalized this decision after approval from the FIFA Council meeting at their Zurich, Switzerland headquarters on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

The FIFA ASEAN Cup was initially launched in Malaysia during October 2025, specifically at the 47th ASEAN Summit.

This tournament's introduction creates new dynamics in the region, as Southeast Asia will host two major competitions within one calendar year in 2026.

Alongside the FIFA ASEAN Cup, the ASEAN Championship will proceed first from July 27 to August 26.

In that ASEAN Championship, the Indonesian National Team is in Group A with Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and the qualifier winner (Brunei Darussalam or Timor-Leste).

Despite the locked schedule, FIFA hasn't detailed the format and framework of the FIFA ASEAN Cup competition.

However, FIFA pledged to involve relevant parties including the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and ASEAN Football Federation in planning and structuring the competition's format.

Amid this regional agenda certainty, Indonesia's immediate focus remains on the FIFA Series 2026 from March 27-30 at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

Besides the host, Bulgaria, Solomon Islands, and St. Kitts and Nevis will participate in the FIFA Series.

Indonesia faces St. Kitts and Nevis in the opening match on Friday, March 27 evening. On the same day's afternoon, Bulgaria plays Solomon Islands.

Winners of these two matches will meet in the final on Monday, March 30 evening. Meanwhile, losing teams compete in the third-place playoff Monday afternoon.

With increasingly crowded and competitive calendars, the FIFA ASEAN Cup could become a new stage for regional rivalries while testing Southeast Asian teams' consistency across two major tournaments.
