Citing Daily Mail, Expedia's Air Hacks 2026 report reveals the latest trends on the most ideal time to buy plane tickets. This study analyzes global data, including Traveler behavior and booking habits.
The results show that ticket prices aren't random; they're influenced by specific months, days, and even dates.
Best Month for Hunting Cheap Tickets
If you're planning your Holiday Plan, May could be the most strategic time. This month is cited as the period with the lowest ticket prices, averaging 21% cheaper than December, which is typically peak Holiday season.
Additionally, January is also on the list of budget months, especially for domestic travel. After the Long Holiday ends, demand decreases, causing ticket prices to drop.
On the other hand, August is known as one of the most expensive periods. High global tourist mobility causes prices to soar significantly—even up to 26% higher compared to early in the year.
Interestingly, June emerges as the most "value for money" month. Travelers can potentially save up to 68% compared to flying in December. The combination of lower prices and destinations being less crowded is a distinct advantage.
Don't Choose the Wrong Flight Day
Besides the month, the day of departure also greatly affects ticket prices.
If your goal is savings, Friday is the most ideal choice. Average ticket prices on this day are about 18% lower than other days.
Conversely, Saturday turns out to be the day with the highest prices for regular flights. This is due to high demand from travelers taking advantage of the Weekend.
However, there's an interesting twist for Business class. If you want a more premium flying experience at a friendlier price, Saturday actually becomes the cheapest option. Meanwhile, Wednesday is the most expensive day for this class.
Quiet Dates = Saving Opportunities
Besides months and days, specific dates can also be a "secret weapon" for saving your budget.
Certain dates like March 4, 5, and 9 tend to have quieter flight volumes. This means the chance of getting cheaper prices is also greater.
The same applies to December 31. While many people are busy celebrating New Year's Eve, flights on this date are relatively less crowded.
