Good news comes from Jakarta. The elderly and persons with disabilities can visit 11 popular tourist attractions in Jakarta for free—no entrance fee, no long queues—simply by presenting valid identification.
This initiative was announced by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) through its official Instagram account. The goal is clear: to ensure all citizens, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, have equal rights to enjoy the city.
Free Tourism with Impressive Destinations
Far from ordinary parks, the destination list features historic, educational, and nostalgic sites: Ragunan Zoo, the Cup Terrace of the National Monument (Monas), the Fine Arts and Ceramic Museum, the Puppet Museum, the Textile Museum, and the Jakarta History Museum.
Additionally included are the Maritime Museum, Museum Joang’45, MH Thamrin Museum, Taman Prasasti Museum, and Onrust Archaeology Museum.
Imagine strolling through Ragunan while enjoying fresh air or reminiscing about the nation’s struggle at Museum Joang ’45—all free of charge!
Note that only entrance tickets are complimentary. Facilities like the Monas observation deck, amusement rides, building rentals, personal aides, and parking remain paid services.
Simple Requirements, Subject to Compliance
To enjoy free access, prepare these documents:
For Persons with Disabilities: Jakarta Provincial ID Card, Jakarta Disability Card, or a disability verification letter from a community health center/government hospital.
For the Elderly (60+): Jakarta Provincial ID Card and a recommendation letter from the head of a social institution (for Social Welfare Beneficiaries).
In short, this program exclusively targets native Jakarta residents, not migrants.
Not Only Tourism—Transportation Also Free
More good news: The Jakarta Provincial Government offers free Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT access to specific groups.
Two types of cards are used
1. Jakcard Combo (Free Transportation Service)
For Jakarta Provincial Government civil servants/retirees, contract workers, Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) holders, private employees receiving provincial minimum wage via Bank DKI, simple rental apartment residents, and Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) teams.
2. TJ Card (Free Transjakarta Transportation)
For seniors aged 60+, persons with disabilities, Indonesian veterans, Raskin/KKS beneficiaries, Thousand Islands residents, mosque caretakers, early childhood educators/staff, larva monitors, and TNI/Polri members.
Thus, the elderly and persons with disabilities enjoy not only free attraction access but also free travel.
This program transcends tourism promotion—it’s tangible proof of the government’s care for vulnerable groups.
A progressive city isn’t just about skyscrapers, but how it embraces its citizens.
