Barcelona coach Barcelona, Hansi Flick stressed his team is wary of Newcastle United's fast counter-attacking threat when the two teams meet in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at St James' Park on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

According to Flick, the English representatives play with very high intensity and are dangerous when transitioning to attack.

He also predicted the famously fanatical stadium atmosphere would put great pressure on the visiting team.

"We'll encounter an extraordinary atmosphere there against a very intense team, fast on the counter-attack, and strong defensively. We ourselves have to defend very well," he said in the pre-match press conference quoted from the club's official website on Wednesday.

Although the tie is played over two legs, Flick believes a positive result in the away match will be crucial in determining the path towards the Quarter-Finals

The coach from Germany said his team is ready to face the huge pressure when playing at Newcastle's home ground.

"This is one of the most important challenges of the season and we are all ready for it," said Flick.

Flick added that the Barcelona squad has prepared themselves as much as possible to face Newcastle's game intensity.

This meeting is not the first for the two teams this season. In the Champions League group stage last September, Barcelona defeated Newcastle 2-1.

Barcelona's two goals in that match were scored by Marcus Rashford, while Newcastle's sole goal came from Anthony Gordon. That victory provides a psychological boost for Barcelona ahead of the important duel at Newcastle's home ground.
